Tesla finally began U.S. deliveries of the Semi on December 1, 2022, after many delays and hiccups. Semi-trucks from Tesla are not like the regular trucks we always see. It excels in terms of range, economy, and performance over traditional oil guzzlers. Here’s everything you need to know about the upcoming ground-breaking vehicle.

Tesla kept the promise of building electric Semi trucks

The company provides a detailed description of what the Semi trucks will be like in 2017. Tesla said there would be autopilot driver assistance on the Tesla Semi. According to the company, the truck will travel more than 500 miles using a single battery charge. Although in a recent event, neither Musk nor the senior manager confirmed or mentioned the autopilot assistance, they confirmed that their truck would travel miles on a single charge if you drive 65 miles per hour. Additionally, the camera that would be needed for autopilot mode was not mentioned. Previously, Musk claimed the Semi could reach 60 mph in 20 seconds when fully loaded. But in the recent event, they didn't mention these features. But they explained how their truck could pass another truck on the highway.

However, some important details were not provided, such as the size of the battery pack. When it comes to charging, Tesla has stayed true to its vision of five years ago. A new generation immersive cooling system will be featured on the "megawatt class charger." Tesla's supercharger network will be similar to these chargers. According to Musk, the Semi accelerates quickly and breaks quickly. When the driver takes their foot off the accelerator, the brakes deliver power to the battery, as promised.

Tesla’s Semi is a powerful truck with an advanced design

In the event of San Diego, the company revealed that the electric truck has the same power train as Plaid Model S and Model X. The tri-motor system will constantly power the vehicle to move faster with complete efficiency. One of the motors will constantly power the vehicle, and the other will control the acceleration and torque. It will help the driver to control the truck more accurately when loading and unloading goods. The truck can bear more than 82,000 pounds with a little but efficient motor. The size of the motor is like a football and more powerful than a diesel engine. Priestley said semi-trucks have three times the power compared to a diesel trucks. Tesla says the centrally positioned driver's seat provides better visibility out the windshield. The truck offers a massive touchscreen display on the ends of the dashboard.

Originally, Tesla expected to charge USD 150,000 (300-mile version)/USD 180,000 (500-mile version) for the Semi with a quad-motor powertrain. The Semi will cost much more than a passenger vehicle, Musk said on October 19, 2022. Reservations for the Semi are on pause. The production of the truck started in Giga, Nevada, which is situated next to the Giga factory in North America. In the near future, the company will manufacture the trucks in Travis County. The company is expected to build 500-mile variants at the start of production. And eventually, they will go for other variants in 2023. As we mentioned earlier, the company is not currently taking any order of Semi.

There are a lot of orders for Tesla Semi, and customers are eagerly awaiting delivery. The demand for Semi from multinational companies is high regarding pre-orders. PepsiCo pre-ordered more than 100 trucks, Anheuser-Busch 40, Walmart 130, and Pride Group Enterprises 150. Pride Group Enterprises reports that payment has been made for initial units and build slots. The orders are just a fraction of these companies' fleets. Drive Tesla Canada reported in January 2022 that Frito-Lay's Modesto facility had been fitted with the first 1.5-megawatt Megachargers.

PepsiCo has 36,000 trucks, 11,000 tractors, 12,300 vans, and 8,300 service support vehicles. Over 25,000 drivers work for the brand in the United States. In the future, the company plans to expand its Semi production infrastructure. More multinational companies are showing interest in ordering Semi trucks from Tesla.
